COSMOS-standard

Cosmetics organic and natural standard

We may find COSMOS labels in products packaging.  What do they mean? Why are they important to you?

Nowadays, many brands use the word organic on labels when their products are not certified as such*. More customers felt misled by the makers of many “organic” beauty products.

Therefore, since 1 January 2017, all new cosmetic products launched on the organic market must be formulated to meet the requirements of the COSMOS-standard.

COSMOS-certified products are produced to the highest standards for organic and natural cosmetics, and are safe, ethical, and good to use.  Make your organic natural shopping free and easy today by recognizing the COSMOS labels.  COSMOS labels are easy to be identified from their packaging. The Label contains all the information you need to know at all levels from the production of raw materials to the distribution of finished products whether they have fulfilled your organic and green expectations.

You will find two types of COSMOS labels:

‘COSMOS ORGANIC’ for products containing approximately 95% to 100% of ingredients which can be organic must be organic (such as plant material, beeswax, milk…) ;

‘COSMOS NATURAL’ for products containing approximately 95% to 100% of the ingredients of the total product must be of natural origin (with water and mineral or mineral-based ingredients considered as natural).

‘COSMOS ORGANIC’ or ‘COSMOS NATURAL’ will always appear right below the logo/mark of the responsible certifier or association, so you will be able to recognize your familiar and trusted organization that participates in the COSMOS-standard.

The companies using COSMOS-standard currently represent more than 4,000 certified products. If the 'Cosmos Organic' or 'Cosmos Natural' approval logo is displayed on the product packaging, this shows that the product has been formulated to meet the high requirements of the COSMOS-standard
